Safaa El Tayeb El-Kogali, The World Bank's new country director for GCC countries. Her expertise in development work make a difference.

Safaa El Tayeb El-Kogali, a Sudanese national, has been appointed as The World Bank's country director for the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates) starting from July 1st, 2023. With over 27 years of experience in development work, El-Kogali is a renowned expert in strategic leadership, government policy, program management, and research. She began her career with The World Bank in March 2000 as a young professional in the East Asia & Pacific Region and has since held several key positions across various regions, including senior economist in the Middle East and North Africa, Human development sector leader in Latin America and the Caribbean, and practice manager for Education in the Middle East and North Africa and Eastern and Southern Africa. El-Kogali has led policy dialogue and programs with governments in more than 30 countries and has authored numerous studies and reports on a wide range of development topics. Ms. El-Kogali has a Master of Philosophy degree with distinction in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, UK and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
